Businessman Jim Mansfield has died

first_imgTHE FORMER OWNER of the CityWest Hotel, Jim Mansfield, has died aged 75.Mansfield was one of Ireland’s most prominent and prolific businessmen during the Celtic Tiger, purchasing hotels, stately homes and an airport.He was one of the first Irish business leaders to buy a private jet, from his self-estimated €1.7 billion.Having left school at 14, Mansfield made his fortune in salvaging equipment and machinery from the Falklands War. This netted him £100 million in the early 80s.However, with the collapse of the economy, his empire crumbled and the jewel in the crown, the CityWest Hotel was sold for €30 million by NAMA.He is survived by his wife Anne and three sons Tony, Jimmy and PJ.Read: Want a private airport outside Dublin?
