Allen: Premier League title is Leicester’s to lose, but Spurs are STILL a threat

first_imgTottenham goalscoring great Clive Allen claims the Premier League title is Leicester City’s to lose, but warns it would not be wise to count out Spurs just yet.The second-placed north Londoners were dealt a blow to their title hopes with a 1-0 loss at West Ham on Wednesday, in a night full of surprise results. But the real winners of the evening, though they didn’t play, were Leicester, who survived with their three-point lead at the summit intact as rivals Arsenal and Manchester City also suffered defeats.Tottenham, however, are still only three points behind the table-topping Foxes, and former Spurs goal-machine Allen believes Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s unquashable belief will ensure they keep their title push alive until the last.“Tottenham were very disappointing, they found it difficult to cope with West Ham’s physicality, and not many teams have done that to Spurs this season,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.“But at least there’s the positive that there was no real damage done in respect to their league position. They’re still only three points behind.“Spurs have their best opportunity to win the league in many, many years, and the one thing about them under Pochettino is that they have the belief.“It’s a young group, it’s an emerging group, and they have a magnificent opportunity. I still believe their goal difference and defensive record will be absolutely vital at the end.“We’re realising now how close it’s going to be, but if Spurs can pick up three points and get themselves level with Leicester, anything can happen!“When you get beat at West Ham and you come back into the dressing room to find out Arsenal have lost at home and Manchester City have lost at Liverpool, you must start to believe you have the opportunity to do it.“The title is Leicester to lose now, which no one would have said, but Spurs have to believe they can do it.”last_img read more
