(emphasis supplied)The letter also states that the Bar Council will hand over a memorandum to the Hon’ble Governors of Punjab and Haryana on 12.10.2020 “before resorting to agitation in anticipation of some tangible solution to the problems being faced by the legal fraternity and common man.”The Letter further lists out the following two methods, which would be adopted, to peacefully and democratically press for their demands.1. Chain hunger strike w.e.f 13.10.2020 in which every day, five advocates will sit in the high court premises as well as in the Districts Courts.2. If the physical functioning of the court will not start in a phased manner, w.e.f 26.10.2020, then the advocates would restrain from attending virtual courts. The letter also states that under the recently issued unlock-5 guidelines even theatres, education institutes are allowed to re-open and w.e.f. 15.10.2020 almost all commercial and other institutions have been allowed to start functioning.”The Parliament and the State Assemblies had their sessions. Even various examinations are being held in the near future. The Assembly elections to Bihar Assembly have been announced by the Election Commission of India. The various Hon’ble High Courts of different states have started physical hearing to mitigate the pangs of a common man striving for justice”, states the Letter. The letter further contends that when almost all the restriction have been substantially relaxed by the Government of India and also keeping in view pandemic has adversely effected the members of legal fraternity which has not been provided with any succour or incentive by the Government in-term of financial assistance, there is a widespread feeling of frustration and demand of the advocates of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with regard to opening of Courts and starting physical hearings in all courts across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh including Punjab and Haryana High Court.Interestingly, the letter highlights that “except handful of Senior Designate Advocates who are thriving”, the majority of the members of legal fraternity are suffering. The Letter further states that in the P&H High Court, there has been no designation of Advocate as Senior Advocate for the last almost 7 years.”Even, the Hon’ble Supreme Court has directed in the matter of Indira Jaisingh to conduct this administrative exercise twice in a year. Such a situation has made the justice delivery system beyond the reach of a common man”, reads the letter. It may be noted that while hearing the matter [In Re Functioning of Courts in Bihar during the period of COVID-19, Pandemic], the Patna High Court on Wednesday (30th September) decided the parameters for e-filing, physical filing, listing and hearing in consonance with all the stakeholders. The Full bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh and Justice Hemant Kumar Srivastava took into consideration the suggestions given by Advocates’ Association, Lawyers’ Association and Bar Association of Patna High Court.Click Here To Download Letter[Read Letter] Subscribe to LiveLaw, enjoy Ad free version and other unlimited features, just INR 599 Click here to Subscribe. Salmonella cases spur FDA warnings on juice, ice cream

first_img Jul 8 FDA news release The FDA warned consumers on Jul 8 not to drink unpasteurized orange juice marketed under various names by Orchid Island Juice Co. of Fort Pierce, Fla. Fifteen cases of infection with Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium were directly linked with consumption of Orchid Island juice in Michigan, Ohio, and Massachusetts from mid-May to mid-June, the agency said. Salmonella organisms are the leading cause of foodborne illness in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC’s FoodNet program reported 14.7 cases of Salmonella infection per 100,000 people in 2004. Of the five most common strains of Salmonella, S Typhimurium was the only one with a significant drop in the number of cases in 2004, the CDC reported in April. See also: At least 16 other states reported S Typhimurium cases that matched the outbreak strain, the FDA said. Investigators were working to determine if these cases were related to Orchid Island products or not. Jul 1 FDA news release The unpasteurized juice comes in various containers sold to retail stores and restaurants under labels that include Nino Salvaggio’s, Westborn Market, and Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice, the FDA said. The company bottles products under other names that had not yet been provided to the FDA. “These products do not bear a warning label that the juice is unpasteurized,” the FDA statement said. “Such warning labels do appear on many unpasteurized juice products, so consumers should not assume these products are safe to consume simply because they do not bear the ‘unpasteurized’ warning label.” On Jul 1 the FDA warned the public that products containing “cake batter” ice cream sold at Cold Stone Creamery stores nationwide might be associated with an outbreak of S Typhimurium cases in four states. Fourteen people in Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, and Ohio had fallen ill in the outbreak, and many of them had eaten “cake batter” ice cream at a Cold Stone Creamery shortly before they got sick. However, Dr. Robert Brackett of the FDA added that “the vast majority of orange juice sold in stores is pasteurized and safe to drink.” Jul 12, 2005 (CIDRAP News) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued two nationwide alerts this month over orange juice and ice cream that may be contaminated with Salmonella. After being informed of the potential contamination, Cold Stone Creamery agreed to remove all “cake batter” ice cream products from its stores, the FDA said. The agency said consumers who might have purchased these products should not eat them. Apr 15, 2005, CIDRAP News story “CDC cites declines in major foodborne infections”last_img read more

Companies were also judged on their five-year track record for sales growth and value creation.MTN was seventh on the list, ahead of the world’s biggest mining company, BHP Billiton, which secured 10th place. Although it’s an Australian firm, the latter has a strong presence in South Africa.Sasol, a multinational which produces a wide variety of chemical and liquid fuels, was 24th on the list. The company mines coal in South Africa and produces gas in Mozambique and oil in Gabon. It also has chemical manufacturing and marketing operations across the globe.Bidvest, which employs more than 105 000 people in South Africa, made it to number 37. “Recognition such as this is satisfying at this particular time as our people have performed exceptionally well in the face of extremely trying trading conditions in many of our key markets,” Bidvest chief executive Brian Joffe said in a media statement.“This accolade reflects their resilience in tough times, their spirit of innovation and their ability to spot opportunity in adversity. The survey salutes the group. I prefer to salute our people.”According to the survey, Bidvest is an example of an emerging-market company poised to become a global player. In 2009 the company’s total revenue topped about $15.39-billion (about R112-billion) drawn from interests in food service, freight logistics, outsourced services, industrial and commercial products, printing and related products and automotive retailing, said BidvestMTN, together with its subsidiaries, provides a range of mobile phone communication services. It recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with an India-based company to boost content for its 103-million users in 21 countries, mostly in Africa and the Middle East. Winning strategiesSome of the strategies of the top companies, said AT Kearney, were a commitment to innovation, diversified portfolios, aggressive expansion, strong leadership and a clear vision.BusinessWeek said technology and telecommunications companies are making great headway in global markets and they stood out in the survey.“[They] have tapped into continuing demand for mobile phone services and new digital hardware and services, as well as heavy industry and engineering outfits benefiting from the uptick in infrastructure spending,” it said.last_img read more
