first_imgIn celebration of its brand-new renovation, the outdoor Terrasse restaurant at Zurich’s renowned hotel Baur au Lac is introducing a special end-of-summer cocktail: the Swisstini.SwisstiniAlbeit most delightful while sipped outdoors at the Terrasse overlooking Lake Zurich, a Swisstini on a rooftop in New York or at a pool party in Los Angeles will do as well (just swap the cross for your favorite accent). To make: Combine 1 1/3 ounces vodka, 1/2 ounce crème de framboise, 3/4 ounce raspberry purée, 1/5 ounce lime juice and a dash of simple syrup. Shake and pour into chilled martini glasses. For the white cross, use two thin pieces of white chocolate. Hint: the layer of foam on top keeps the white chocolate afloat.About the Baur au Lac Fresh off a $41 million renovation, the 120-room Baur au Lac is a short walk from Zürich’s world-famous Bahnhofstrasse, the central Paradeplatz and the city’s bustling financial district. It is also home to newly renovated Pavillion and Terrasse restaurants, as well as Rive Gauche restaurant, a place to see and be seen in Zurich, and is steps from the sparkling waters and boat cruises of Lake Zurich. The Baur au Lac is one of the oldest members of The Leading Hotels of the World.www.bauraulac.ch.last_img read more

first_imgPersonal belongings of Boston singer Brad Delp for auction BOSTON – Fans of the rock band Boston can get more than a feeling at an upcoming auction — they can get their hands on the personal belongings of late lead singer Brad Delp.Delp’s concert grand piano, an electric guitar, silver glitter platform stage shoes and even his New Hampshire driver’s license are among the items for sale by Boston-based RR Auction starting Dec. 7.The belongings are from the personal collection of Delp’s wife, Micki Delp, and their two children.“I hope that all these items end up in the hands of people who appreciate it, and preserve the legacy of Brad’s kindness and humour,” Micki Delp said in a statement. “He was always kind and generous. He really was unaffected by the fame and fortune that fell in his lap. It shows in all these wonderful things.”Brad Delp joined Boston in the early 1970s, and the band rocketed to fame in 1976 with its self-titled debut album, which for years was the biggest-selling debut album of all-time. The album included the hits “More Than a Feeling,” ”Foreplay/Long Time” and “Smokin’.”Delp killed himself at his Atkinson, New Hampshire, home in 2007.The centerpiece of the auction is the piano, an 1873 Chickering of hand-carved rosewood. It is expected to fetch $50,000 or more at the auction, which runs for a week.Delp’s Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 electric guitar could sell for $5,000, while the platform shoes are expected to go for about $1,000.The auction includes telegrams Delp received from Paul McCartney and his Danvers, Massachusetts, high school diploma and yearbook.Delp’s personal vinyl record collection, including albums by Led Zeppelin, Cheap Trick, Queen and his beloved Beatles, also is for sale.___This story has been corrected to remove the reference to Delp co-writing “More Than a Feeling,” ”Foreplay/Long Time” and “Smokin’.” ”More Than a Feeling” and “Foreplay/Long Time” were written solely by Tom Scholz. The credit for “Smokin’” is Tom Scholz and Delp. Cypriot MEPs cautious about a multispeed Europe

first_imgCypriot MEPs are cautious about a ‘multi-speed Europe’ and the shift of more powers to Brussels after Brexit, it was reported on Sunday. In an interviews with the Chinese news agency Xinhua, Akel MEP Takis Hadjigeorgiou and Disy’s Lefteris Christoforou agreed it would be risky.“Any effort by big countries such as Germany, France, Spain and Italy for a multi-speed Europe would not be liked by the European peoples,” said Hadjigeorgiou.Christoforou, an MEP from the ruling right-wing DISY party, also told Xinhua that a multi-speed Europe would be a risky task.A ‘multi-speed European Union’ was one of five alternative options suggested in a White Paper on Brexit by European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker. It suggests faster and further integration of the bloc.“Social and economic cohesion, solidarity and cooperation cannot operate in a multi-speed Europe. Peoples want a unified Europe which will be strong, indivisible, that would safeguard an equal presence of states, governments and citizens, and not a multi-divided Europe,” Christoforou told Xinhua. He and Hadjigeorgiou also believe that Brussels garnering more power at the expense of national governments would hurt rather than help the bloc.“That would result in the trust of the European citizens in the European Union being completely lost,” Hadjigeorgiou said. “No one can seriously disagree with Juncker’s call for closer cooperation. But under what terms and who will decide what opportunities and capabilities one-half of EU states would have in such closer cooperation.”Christoforou, despite reservations did however supported further integration, especially in the fields of common foreign policy, defense and security.Hadjigeorgiou too said that due to Turkey, Cyprus needed the protection offered by its EU membership.“Additionally, we have an obligation to reform our state which would be responsible vis-a-vis its citizens, with a sound economy, a health system and a sound education. A state that could upgrade its role in the European Union to some degree,” he said. You May LikeTruthFinder People Search SubscriptionOne Thing All Liars Have in Common, Brace YourselfTruthFinder People Search SubscriptionUndoFigLeaf Beta AppGet Maximum Privacy with Minimum EffortFigLeaf Beta AppUndoTotal Battle – Online Strategy GameIf You’re PC User This Strategy Game Is A Must-Have!Total Battle – Online Strategy GameUndo Concern over falling tourism numbersUndoTurkish Cypriot actions in Varosha ‘a clear violation’ of UN resolutions, Nicosia saysUndoTwo arrested in connection with attempted murderUndoby Taboolaby Taboolalast_img read more
