CONWAY, Ark. – For the first time in school history, the University of Central Arkansas will be sending two individuals to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regionals as senior Fernanda Lira and junior Emma Svensson were among the six individuals selected Wednesday for the Tallahassee Regional.Lira, from Mexico City, Mexico, and Svensson, from Halmstad, Sweden, will join the field of 384 golfers playing in four regional tournaments on May 7-9. The Tallahassee Regional will be played at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club, with Alabama as the No. 1 seed. From the four regionals, the top six teams and top three individuals not on those teams – a total of 132 golfers – will advance to the national championships on May 18-23 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. The final three days of the championships will be televised live by the Golf Channel.Lira finished third at last week’s Southland Conference Championship with rounds of 75-73-75 for a 10-over 223. Svensson finished fourth with rounds of 75-78-71 for a 224. Svensson won two tournaments this season and averaged 73.2 strokes per round in 29 rounds. She will be playing in her second NCAA Regional after participating in 2016 in the Baton Rouge Regional.Lira had six Top 10 finishes and averaged 73.3 strokes per round in 29 rounds. Svensson was the Southland Conference Golfer of the Month for February and April, while Lira won the award for March. UCA finished as runnerup at the 2018 SLC Tournament for the fourth straight year.Lira was the 2015 SLC Freshman of the Year, followed by Svensson taking the award in 2016. Both players are two-time first-team All-SLC selections, with the 2018 awards set for release on Thursday.
