Rishad denies claims on replacing Rumy

However the Minister said that Rumy Marzook never tendered his resignation and wanted to continue for another three months.“Accordingly, we extended. The agreement was for him to stay for another three-month’s period and no longer, and then to retire from the CAA. The end of this additional three month grace period ended already. Therefore we are now planning to appoint a new Chairman to CAA,” the Minister added. (Colombo Gazette) “I agree that we are planning to take in a new Chairman to the CAA. However, I categorically and clearly state that I am not planning to remove the current CAA Chairman intentionally as a result of him not agreeing to me. In fact, there is no plan by me to intentionally remove him from CAA and this is also a false statement,” Bathiudeen said in a statement. Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, while confirming that the present chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Rumy Marzook, is to be replaced, denied claims over the motives to remove him.It had been reported that the Minister was going to remove Marzook as a result of a disagreement between him and the Minister. Bathiudeen said that the Chairman has been holding the position for around ten years as a political appointee of the previous administration and when the new administration was elected in January 2015, it was clear that his position gets vacated.
